Wolfeboro Parks and Recreation

Happy Holidays!

The Wolfeboro Department of Parks and Recreation is thrilled by the gracious winter wonderland here at the Abenaki Ski Area.  The snowfall and forecast are leading up to what we anxiously believe will be a spectacular holiday vacation week.  Snow making began this week and with the help of mother nature we are beginning to cover the ski slope for our intended opening of the rope tow on December 26th.  We invite you to come out and to support your local mountain.  Bring your guests and holiday visitors out to enjoy the best of what Wolfeboro has to offer in the Winter.  We have excellent grooming and you will be amazed at Abenaki conditions and terrain.

Abenaki Snow Making

The Friends of Abenaki are planning for the upcoming ski season. The Friends are currently raising money for the rental of the snow making units in hopes of installing a permanent system next year.  Staff has begun snow making this week to reach our goal of having the main slope open for the December 26th.  Season Passes are also available for the Abenaki Ski Area and the fees are the same as the Pop Whalen fees listed above.  Season pass forms are available at the Pop Whalen Arena or on-line at www.wolfeboronh.us click on departments/department of parks and recreation and print out the Season Pass Application.

Skiing at Abenaki is a fun family atmosphere, with helpful staff ready to assist beginners with their first attempts at using the rope tow.  Skiers and riders should have split leather gloves or purchase rope tow protectors for added grip on the rope.  Knitted mittens and natural materials are not allowed due to the twisting of the rope.  No scarves nor long dangling articles of clothing are allowed.  Long hair must be tied up and tucked inside of your jacket or hat for safety.  The ski areas recommends the use of helmets by all skiers and riders.  Helmets are mandatory for anyone wishing to use the  terrain park or jumps.  Concession items are available for purchase including grilled hot dogs, hamburgers, chips soda and candy.  Check out our full brochure for more information on the upcoming pond hockey tournament, winter carnival and skiing and skating programs.
