Barnstead is known for its recreational activities, like snowmobiling, hiking, fishing, kayaking and canoeing, as well as its close proximity to Portsmouth and Concord, NH. Route 28 runs through Barnstead, so there’s easy access for visitors to go to the lakes and mountains for both boating and skiing. The town was named in 1727 after Barnstable on Cape Cod, MA and Hempstead on Long Island, NY because settlers emigrated from those areas. Now, Barnstead is home to diverse communities who have come from far and wide to enjoy the town’s natural beauty.
The Barnstead Farmers Market’s mission is to promote locally grown and handmade produce and products to the area towns and communities. They believe knowing where your food comes from is just as important as knowing the people behind all the food and it is something that cannot be taken for granted.They are open every Saturday from 9am to 1pm, from June to October. Make an appointment to shop, or just keep your eyes open around the community to see some state of the art work!

Shopping at the marketplace is a great place to shop local and get involved in the community, plus you are sure to get the best, farm fresh groceries around. Today, the market has over 50 members who have their base of operations within 30 miles of Wakefield. Stop by the market on Saturdays from 9am-3pm to check out the scene.
