Where To Pick Your Own Apples

DeVylder Farm

563 Pleasant Valley Rd., Wolfeboro, NH 03894

PYO apples, our own apple cider, mums, pumpkins, baked goods, farm stand, and so much more. The farm is open September 1 to mid-October, Wednesday-Sunday, 9-5. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

Alyson’s Orchard

57 Alyson’s Ln., Walpole, NH

Alyson’s grows everything from berries and peaches to plums and nectarines, but this 450-acre orchard (with 50 acres of fruit-bearing trees) is best known for its apples. Choose from more than 50 types of apples, including many heirloom varieties. When you’ve had your fill of apple picking, let the kids visit with the goats, play a game of bocce or just enjoy the beauty of this gorgeous orchard.

Applecrest Farm

133 Exeter Rd., Hampton Falls, NH

This fourth-generation farm also grows a number of different fruits, pumpkins and gourds, but there’s a reason apples are its namesake — they have 220 acres of orchards growing more than 40 varieties. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., they offer pick-your-own fruit and cut-your-own flowers, bluegrass music, horse-drawn hayrides and more.

Stone Brook Hill Farm

128 Glidden Rd., Gilford, NH

Enjoy an old-fashioned hay wagon ride into the orchard where more than a dozen apple varieties are available. Definitely don’t miss the lovely farmstand with its delicious cider donuts and fresh-pressed cider.

Mack’s Apples

230 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry, NH

Mack’s Apples has an impressive history — this eighth-generation, family-run farm has about 400 acres with 100 of those dedicated to apples. In fact, the Mack family has continuously farmed the land since 1732. There are also lovely walking trails and both ice cream and farmstands. At the farmstand, you’ll find fresh vegetables, honey, pumpkins, squash, local maple syrup and many other items.

Poverty Lane Orchards

98 Poverty Ln., Lebanon, NH

Specializing in heirloom varieties plus your familiar favorites, Poverty Lane also grows cider apples for the related Farnum Hill Ciders. These hard ciders are available in other stores, but nothing beats picking your own apples followed by a growler fill for the adults. The farm store also sells regular cider and other products. There are free weekend wagon rides (weather permitting and with new safety precautions in place), picnic tables and plenty of room for kids to play.

Brookdale Fruit Farm

41 Broad St., Hollis, NH

Established in 1847, Brookdale offers nearly every kind of fruit and vegetable, including 19 varieties of apples. Make sure you take the time to visit the large Best of NH award-winning farm store that sells the farm’s honey and produce, plus specialty foods, baked goods, local items and much more.

Smith Orchard

184 Leavitt Rd., Belmont, NH

Started by Rob and Wende Richter in 1985, Smith offers an array of apple picking choices like Ginger Gold, Macintosh and MacGown. Their 80-year-old trees may not be as red as the new varieties on the market today, but what they lack in looks, they make up for in taste.

Lull Farm

65 Broad St., Hollis, NH

Owned and operated by David Orde, Lull Farm in Hollis and Milford offers fresh local produce, dairy, eggs, artisanal cheeses and bakery specialties along with their PYO apples. Don’t miss out on trying their homemade cider too!

DeMeritt Hill Farm

20 Orchard Way, Lee, NH

DeMeritt has everything from vegetables and Christmas trees to blueberries and pumpkins, but this orchard might be most famous for its apples. Choose from standard classics and antiques to the latest varieties like the Hampshire Mac. They also have a bakery, several miles of trails and farm animals for you to check out. If you visit in October, don’t forget to check out one of the most creative and unique haunted attractions in the world, Haunted Overload.

NH Maker & Food Fest Returns to Downtown Dover

What: NH Maker & Food Fest
When: Saturday, Sept. 18
Time: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire, 6 Washington St., Dover

The NH Maker and Food Fest is a day-long festival that invites all ages to explore the creativity and ingenuity of area makers, hobbyists, artisans, performers and more.

“Much like the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire’s mission, which is to actively engage families in hands-on discovery, the NH Maker Fest is a great opportunity to experience a ton of local innovation and resourcefulness all in one place,” says Neva Cole, CMNH Communications Director.

Participants vary from year to year, and maker applications are still being accepted.

Among this year’s participants:

  • Lindsey Castellon, owner of Angry Gato Designs, is excited to participate for the first time this year, and will not only be selling her fantastical laser-cut works of art, illustrations, jewelry and more, but will also be showing guests how to make their own fabric scrap garland.
  • Local podcaster Laura Harper will be on hand with her friends from the Creative Guts podcast, and will be inviting folks to stop by and record answers to a few of their creative questions. Recordings from the Fest may even be used in a future episode of Creative Guts.
  • NH Maker Fest alumni will include the Maker Lab at the Dover Library, as well as the talented students of the McDonough-Grimes Irish Dance group who will be performing on the Rotary Arts Pavilion stage in front of the museum.
  • Also back again this year is the FIRST LEGO League team from the Dover Middle School who will not only show off their robots, but help guests code and operate a robot to complete missions of their own.

Interested makers also have the option of participating virtually through pre-recorded videos, online workshops, blogs and more.

“We went totally virtual with the Fest last year, and we wanted to offer that option to people again this year since it was a lot of fun, and an easy way for people to show off their talents,” Cole says.

Also new this year, the Fest has partnered with the Cochecho Arts Festival, organized by the Dover Chamber of Commerce. Magic Fred, a children’s magician will perform from 10-10:30 a.m., and The Kenney Brother Band, a folk rock group, will perform from 3-4 p.m. as the culmination of both the NH Maker and Food Fest and the Cochecho Arts Festival summer concert series. Both performances will take place on the Rotary Arts Pavilion at Henry Law Park.

Visit here to learn more about the Fest, to support this event, or to apply as a maker.

NH Highland Games & Festival

Lincoln, September 17-19

Heading north for this beloved fest, you could almost convince yourself that the mountains on the horizon are the rolling hills of the Scottish Highlands — and once you hear the bagpipes and spot the sea of tartan on the festival grounds, you’ll really start believing it. Though things will be a bit different this year (advanced tickets are required, and no tickets will be sold onsite), you can still expect to enjoy athletic feats of strength and endurance, Celtic music, sheep dog trials and more.  (603) 229-1975; nhscot.org

;Neil Simon's The Dinner Party at The Colonial Theatre

The Dow Realty Group is proud to sponsor "The Dinner Party" by Neil Simon at The Colonial Theatre

August 13, 7:30pm, August 14, 7:30pm, August 15, 2:00pm

Tickets are $14-$20

A Co-Production with Community Players of Concord, NH

Here is a decidedly French dinner party served up in a chaotic mode that only a master of comedy could create. Five people are invited to dine at a first rate restaurant in Paris. They do not know who the other guests will be or why they have been invited. Tossed together in a private dining room, they have a sneaking suspicion that this unorthodox dinner party will forever change their lives.

About the Show

Happiness is great musical theatre! With charm, wit, and heart, You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown explores life through the eyes of Charlie Brown and his friends in the Peanuts gang. This revue of songs and vignettes, based on the beloved Charles Schulz comic strip, is the ideal musical for audiences both young and old!

We are working hard to put together another summer full of memories, music, theatre, film and fun. As you can imagine, planning to hold large gatherings and events presents a host of real, concrete challenges in the current environment, and we are collaborating closely with City officials to set protocols for doing so safely.

Twin Barns Brewing Company 360 Tour

The Dow Realty Group is happy to promote Twin Barns Brewing Company not only because they have become a Meredith area staple, but because we love their beer. Read up on their history and take a 360 tour below to see their beautiful establishment. When you have time, go visit them and have a pint, you won't be disappointed.

Twin Barns Brewing Company was formed in June of 2018 with the plan to brew and serve proper handcrafted beer in the Lakes Region. Now, you will be able to find our beer just a short distance away from the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee in a 1850s antique barn.

The idea for Twin Barns Brewing was fermented by Dave Picarillo and Bruce Walton, a couple of traveling consultants by day who dreamed of brewing at night. For years they talked about pouring their home brewing hobbies and general love of all things beer into delicious craft brews they could share with the public.

Over decades (and many, many beers), business plans were drafted and locations were scouted but life always seemed to shelve their brewpub hopes. Until 2017, during a brewery tour in NH, when their passion to open a spot of their own was re-ignited. Two months later, in nearby Meredith, NH, they found a barn built in 1850, that would be the perfect place to make their dream a reality. After further inspection, one barn was actually two joined together and that’s how Twin Barns Brewing was finally founded in 2018.

Coppal House Farm Sunflower Festival

Wander through six acres of sunflowers with their happy countenance aglow in orange and yellow — it’s agri-entertainment at its most colorful. During the festival, special paths are cut though fields to enable viewing from many angles, and several sunrise and sunset times are limited to photographers and artists. Afterward, visit the farm stand for fresh eggs, just-picked produce and the farm’s award-winning, cold-pressed sunflower oil. Don’t forget to check out their sunflower variety garden that will be open starting August 9.
